Humberto Saldana once wrote: “The expression of facial psychology has rarely been achieved with the detailed realism of Fors. With Renaissance precision, he shows us what cannot be photographed—the spiritual state of suffering, the obscure realm of sentiment, the abysses of the heart, the desperate loneliness that destroys us.” This etching exemplifies the raw power and emotional intensity for which José Fors Original Etching is known.
Born in Havana, Cuba, on July 30, 1958, José Fors moved with his family to Mexico City in 1967 and later spent his adolescence in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In 1990, he co-founded the musical group CUCA, a landmark band in Mexico’s rock and hard rock scene. Fors has maintained a prolific artistic career, including more than 63 solo exhibitions, 42 group exhibitions worldwide, and over 20 recorded albums.
His works are held in prestigious permanent collections, including:
Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, TX
San Antonio Museum of Art, San Antonio, TX
Wurth Museum, Kunselsau, Germany
Museum of Art at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico
Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, Chicago, IL
National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba
Houston Museum of Fine Arts, TX
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA
Museum of Contemporary Arts, Los Angeles, CA
…and many others.
The refined detail, expressive depth, and emotional resonance in José Fors Original Etching make this work an extraordinary addition to any collection.
