Zaida del Rio (b. 1954, Guadalupe, Las Villas, Cuba) is regarded as one of the most respected living women artists in Cuba today. Her artistic vision establishes a powerful connection between the human body and nature, often portraying the body as a living landscape. Drawing from a deep spiritual bond with Mother Nature, her works present an imaginary realm where plants, trees, and organic forms merge seamlessly with feminine human figures. Through abstraction, del Rio employs a unique visual language that explores themes of spirituality, sensuality, and inner harmony—hallmarks of her celebrated Zaida del Rio artwork.

Del Rio received her formal training at the National School of Fine Arts in Havana, earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Superior Institute of Art in Havana, and later completed a Master of Fine Arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Her work has been featured in every edition of the Havana Biennial and in international biennials across Ecuador, Egypt, Brazil, Santo Domingo, and Japan. She has held solo exhibitions in Havana, Florence, Barcelona, and numerous museums and galleries worldwide. Among her many accolades is the Third Prize for Painting at the Tenri Biennial in Japan, further solidifying the global significance of her Zaida del Rio artwork.
