This is an excellent example of recent, original Salinas works on paper The work is both stunning and profound. This work is watercolor, gouache, pastel, charcoal and graphite on archival paper. Baruj Salinas is the most significant, and well established contemporary artist this gallery represents. He has work in the permanent collections of over 35 museums, and has had over 150 solo shows worldwide, and a number of museum shows. This work is 26" x 20" and was done in 1985, a very good early work that reflected his abstract expressionist roots.

This Cuban Master lived in Barcelona in the 1970's, and studied with Joan Miro, Antoni Tapies. Salinas is now in his 80's. Baruj Salinas is a Cuban Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1935. Salinas found early success as a painter and engraver. He is also an educator, having taught for many years at Miami Dade College. Salinas is regularly featured in solo shows in galleries in Europe and the United States. His participation in group exhibitions includes Recent Developments in Latin American Drawing at The Art Institute of Chicago, Outside Cuba , and Breaking Barriers: Selections from the Museum of Art’s Permanent Contemporary Cuban Collection at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale. His work was featured in exhibitions at the Coral Gables Museum and The Americas Collection. He studied at Kent State University in Ohio – He is the winner of numerous awards, including the Prize to Excellency at the VII Grand Prix International de Peinture in Cannes, France; a first prize at the IV Pan American Exhibition in Miami, and a first prize at the Sexta Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Salinas was deeply influenced by the Abstract Expressionists, and his mentor Joan Miro, who he studied with for years, in Barcelona. Salinas is quoted as saying: "Because of my connection and collaboration with poets and writers such as María Zambrano, José Angel Valente, Pere Gimferrer, and Michel Butor, I developed a concept of the language of the clouds. This consisted basically of a grey background with white as the main color of my palette–the white symbolizing clouds. I also used pictograms, ideograms, and strange alphabets like the Greek alphabet, the Hebrew alphabet, and the Iberian alphabet".

On another occasion Salinas was quoted as saying: "To me, painting is not work. It is something that transcends labor. I love to be in my studio painting because I forget about everything else. I’m so concentrated on it that it is like a meditation. I concentrate on what I’m doing and I enjoy it while I’m doing it. I enjoy seeing a wide space being developed into something that has life. It’s always been the most important thing in my life. And architecture was never so.” This is outstanding, and difficult to find work, from this artists' most sought after period, and is investment grade original art.
